Mine/UXO Clearance
Indigenous Capacity Building
The RONCO approach is developmental. It builds indigenous capacity to
carry out mine clearance operations, provides medical and logistics support,
handles the mine detecting dogs, and provides support services for dogs
and handlers. RONCO expatriates provide initial training and supervision
that is eventually turned over to highly trained locals. RONCO's approach
aims at training local technicians and developing institutional capability
so that demining can continue in the host country without the need for
foreign assistance. RONCO takes extreme pride in our success with building
capacity in the country concerned.
RONCO has developed indigenous capacity in many countries to the point
that they possess fully certified international capability. We regularly
utilize this RONCO-developed talent on international clearance operations.
For example, RONCO Mozambican staff worked in Kosovo, Bosnians in Guantanamo
Bay, and Croats in Namibia. Please see the Oman example for a step-by-step illustration of how RONCO
is able to successfully leave a fully indigenous capacity in the country
concerned.
